Police investigate homicide

By J.D. Piland

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s office has called the death of Joseph Brandt, of Sycamore, a homicide.

Sheriff Roger Scott said the DeKalb County coroner’s preliminary findings indicated the victim had been shot. The details on the weapon have not been released by the sheriff’s office, but Scott said they probably will be released later. He also added that the type of weapon is vital to the investigation.

“Until we make fundamental, solid progress, we can’t release much,” Scott

said.

Brandt was found dead by his landlord Wednesday night in his Sycamore home.

The investigation is headed up by the DeKalb County Major Case Squad, which

consists of DeKalb and Sycamore police, University Police and sheriff’s office

detectives.

Also assisting in the case is a Kane County Sheriff’s investigator, because

Brandt’s home is about two miles from the Kane County line.

Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call the sheriff’s

office at 895-2155 or CrimeStoppers at 895-7232.
