Police respond to brawl

DeKalb Police and University Police responded to a 911 call reporting an early morning fight involving 10 people inside Around The Clock, 1039 W. Hillcrest Drive, on Aug. 17.

After arriving at the scene, officers arrested Josh Anderson, 21, of Rochelle; Courtney Feithen, 19, of DeKalb; Aaron Frias, 18, of Rock Falls; George Campos, 25, of DeKalb; Ryan Stulgin, 22, of DeKalb; James Knebel, 22, of DeKalb; and Bethany Loyd, 21, of Rochelle for violating city ordinances.

Jose Casteneda, 22, of DeKalb, also was charged with resisting a peace officer. James Knebel, 22, of DeKalb, was arrested for failure to appear in court for disorderly conduct.

Police reports and restaurant employees indicated that alcohol played a role in the incident.

Holly Abel, a DeKalb resident and waitress at the restaurant, witnessed the fight and said it began because of comments made by a group of males toward a group of females.

The yelling match turned into a full street fight in the doorway of the restaurant, Abel said.

“Everyone was involved in the fight, including the girls,” Abel said. The fight caused the destruction of the coat rack and some tables, Abel added.

When the situation escalated to a fist fight, the police were called.

“The fighting only stopped when the sirens and lights arrived,” Abel said.

The case remains open and a more thorough investigation is in progress. DeKalb Police Lt. Jim Kayes said more charges probably will be brought against certain individuals involved in the incident, including mob action and aggravated battery. Warrants for these additional charges could be issued in the coming weeks with arrests following.
