DeKALB — NIU will have two new players in their women’s basketball roster next season as two seniors committed to play women’s basketball on Friday.

Moriah Prewitt, senior at Des Moines Christian High School, signed her national letter of intent to play basketball and attend NIU starting Fall 2021.

Prewitt is a 5’9 guard from Des Moines, Iowa, who is a native to the program. She had the highest scoring average in Class 3A with 18.2 points per game at the Iowa girls’ state basketball tournament in 2020, according to The Gazette.

Laura Nickel, senior at Marshall High School, also signed her national letter of intent for NIU to attend and play basketball starting Fall 2021.

Nickel is a 6’0 forward from Marshall, Wisconsin, who is a new resident to the program. She averaged 15.6 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.4 steals per game, according to Wisconsin State Journal.

While these seniors were unable to have a normal senior basketball season due to COVID-19, a new chapter is ready to start here at NIU in 2021.
