That is the last time the NIU volleyball team lost a game as its streak hit 18 games this past weekend with straight-set wins over Eastern Illinois on Saturday and Wright State on Friday.

The Huskies are also riding a six-match winning streak, which has propelled them to a 3-0 Mid-Continent Conference record and a 10-2 record overall.

“These road matches were very important for us,” said head coach Pete Waite. “After spending six hours on the bus (Friday) and five hours (Saturday), we got off the bus, went right into the gym and played with great focus.”

The weekend started with a 15-4, 15-9, 15-8 pasting of the Wright State Raiders at the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio. Outside hitter Kori Schauer led the offensive charge with nine kills against one error in 15 attempts. Waite, however, stressed the importance the defense played.

“Their middle blocker Joylynn Mosier is the hardest hitting player in the league,” Waite said. “But I was really happy we kept her down to seven kills with five errors in 21 attempts. We did the job we had to do.”

On Saturday, the Huskies invaded Charleston and crushed the Eastern Illinois Lady Panthers by scores of 15-5, 15-8, 15-8 and gave EIU its first conference loss of the season.

The attack was led by senior Wendy Mason. She hammered 23 kills against six errors in 41 attempts.

Middle blocker Amy Foulke blasted 15 kills against 2 errors in 27 attempts. On defense, outside hitter Nikki Kozak led with 19 digs while Becky Ramsey chipped in 14.

The Huskies now have a few days to rest as they prepare for a two-match homestand this weekend. NIU has its first match ever with Mid-Continent Conference newcomer Youngstown State on Friday night with the first serve at 7:00 and then a Saturday afternoon tilt with Cleveland State at 2:00.
