Men’s tennis loses four of six matches against Ball State

DeKALB The men’s tennis team dropped its fifth straight game in a row Sunday in Rockford, Illinois after losing to Ball State University 5-2. 

There were six singles matches that took place between the Huskies and Cardinals. Ball State was able to win four of the six matches. NIU junior Oliver Valentinnson was able to win his match rather easily over Ball state senior, winning in two sets 6-2 and 6-1.

NIU sophomore Mikael Vollbach won a tight matchup over Ball State senior Chris Adams, winning in a tough three sets 6-2, 3-6 and 6-2. 

The three doubles matches of the day did not have any better results for the Huskies. NIU’s double pairing of redshirt junior Kris Ortega and Valentinnson were the only winners for the Huskies. The duo was the only one to win out of the three doubles matches played Sunday. 

With the loss, the Huskies overall record drops to 6-5. NIU will look to bounce back at 2 p.m Friday against the University of Binghamton in Binghamton, New York.
