Women’s tennis continues win streak, beats Western Michigan

The NIU women’s tennis team edged out a win over the Western Michigan Broncos 4-3 on Sunday in DeKalb.

With the win, the Huskies’ regular season ends at 17-11.

Doubles: 1-0 WMU

NIU was only able to take one of the three doubles matches on the day as freshman Erika Dmitrieva and sophomore Anastasia Rankin defeated WMU Ana Karen Guadiana and Kaitlyn Rogosch 6-3.

In the other two matches, WMU junior Lindsey Ziegler and senior Kristina Tirapolsky beat senior Christy Robinson and senior Fernanda Naves 7-6, (7-4), and WMU senior Femke Tjon A Joe and senior Taylor Smith edged senior Iuilia Dmitrieva and freshman Reagan Welch 6-3.

Singles: 3-3

NIU won four out of the six matches on the day to grab the win for the Huskies.

WMU’s two wins came as Ziegler defeated freshman Erika Dmitrieva 6-2, 6-3, and Joe beat Rakita 6-1.

For NIU, Welch defeated WMU junior Kiana Rizzolo 7-5, 6-4.

Sophomore Diana Lukyanova beat WMU sophomore Ana Karen Gudiana 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.

Freshman Angelica Ross edged WMU senior Kaitlyn Rogosch 7-5, 6-1.

Finally, senior Christy Robinson beat WMU sophomore Maya Perkucin 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 6-4.
