Extend the Trend: Fake Freckles

Extend the Trend: Fake Freckles

By Abby Wisecarver | March 4, 2018

Around 4 to 5 percent of the world’s population is born with freckles, which is a small amount, according to Foreo. This small percentage explains why “fake freckles” have become super popular, but it does come across as deceiving.

Some women born with freckles have been attempting to cover them up for years, but now freckles have been adopted into the beauty community. Gaining popularity in 2015, fake freckles have skyrocketed and are now trending throughout the fashion world.

“As a person who has freckles, I hate this trend,” said Hannah Muntz, freshman elementary education major. “I went so many years of my life hating the dots on my face and now they are popular? No, I do not like it and will be happy when it finally dies down.”

I know what it’s like to look in the mirror and hate what I see, even if I can’t change it. But freckles are much more than randomized dots on your face, they add charm and character to every freckled-skinned individual.

If adding something small to your face makes you feel better and more confident, then why the heck not? Makeup has no rules and is something you can use to demonstrate creative expression. Pull out your eyeliner and get to dotting! Fake freckles are here to stay and everyone should be able to change their appearance and do whatever they want to.
