Campus crime blotter for 1/18/11

Tuesday

  • At 10:04 a.m., an individual’s wallet was found that contained field tested cannabis. The individual received a referral to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct for possession of cannabis 30 GM and under.
  • At 3:12 p.m., a subject at Grant South reported his wallet was stolen from his room while he went to take a shower and left his room unlocked. Pending any leads or suspects, this case is administratively closed.

City blotter for 10/11/10

  • At 2:40 a.m. Sunday, DeKalb Police observed a vehicle in the 1200 block of North Annie Glidden Road with no headlights on. After stopping the vehicle, police could smell alcohol on the driver's breath. The driver failed a sobriety test. Two other passengers in the car admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages while underage. Steven C. Tyrell, 19, Matthew J. Poppenger, 19, and Amber L. Sayles, 18, all of Sycamore, were charged with unlawful consumption of alcohol. Tyrell was also charged with driving with no headlights. An investigation was started on the incident.
  • At 2:57 a.m. Sunday, DeKalb Police observed a car in the 800 block of Ridge Drive had a smoking engine, smashed hood, broken windshield and broken front headlights. After the vehicle was stopped, police saw leaking coming from the car and both airbags had deployed. Police learned the driver had struck a vehicle earlier and fled the scene. The driver was found to have been driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI). Darryl D. McCollum, 33 of DeKalb, was arrested for DUI, DUI over .08, hit and run, improper lane usage and having no insurance. McCollum was sent to DeKalb County Jail pending bond.
  • At 10:47 p.m. Sunday, DeKalb Police observed a vehicle in the 400 block of West Taylor Street going 42 mph in a 30 mph zone. After a citation was given, the driver sped away. The officer who was still outside of their police vehicle, felt the driver came close to running over their foot. The officer caught up to the driver and saw them make a turn onto Third Street without using a signal. Kelly Rose M. Ortega, 24 of DeKalb, was arrested and charged with reckless driving, speeding and failure to turn. Ortega was sent to the DeKalb Police Department and later released on bond.
