The former 1990-91 Student Association president has been named as NIU’s 1991 student laureate of the Lincoln Academy of Illinois.

Robert McCormack, a senior history major, was recognized for his outstanding scholarship and excellence in extracurricular activities.

McCormack, who has a 3.87 grade point average, has been on the dean’s list for each semester he has been at NIU.

He has served on many campus groups, including the SA minority relations and internal affairs committees, the University Council and the University Judicial Hearing Board.

McCormack will receive the award in Springfield from Gov. Jim Edgar Saturday. A reception at the executive mansion will follow.

Every year, Lincoln Academy chooses a senior from each four-year college or university in Illinois to recognize.

NIU runners-up for the award were Arnold Christianson, a communication studies major; Kathryn DeGrave, a human and family resources major; Brenda Redmon, a human and family resources major; David Gilmore, a psychology major; David Huggins, a nursing major; Jim Molidor, an accounting major; and Nancy Rynes, a geology major.

McCormack is a Board of Regents scholar and has received the history department’s Jeannie Hainds scholarship and a 1991-92 NIU Alumni Association scholarship.

After he graduates, McCormack plans to attend law school or graduate school in history.

Before entering NIU, he was sponsored by Rotary International as an exchange student.
