People will get a chance to say goodbye to a prominent Sycamore figure Thursday.

Funeral services for the late Sycamore Mayor, Harold “Red” Johnson, will be held Thursday at the Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home, 1245 Somonauk Rd. at 2 p.m.

Johnson died of natural causes early Sunday morning at Kishwaukee Community Hospital.

DeKalb County Coroner, Dennis Miller, said the autopsy revealed Johnson died of natural causes, a heart attack. Miller said the family requested the autopsy, and it is “normal” for families of prominent community figures to request an autopsy.

Johnson will be buried at the Ellwood Cemetery, Charles and S. Cross Streets in Sycamore.

Visitation is Wednesday at the funeral home from 2 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Johnson was born in Maple Park in 1917. Besides being the mayor of Sycamore for 33 years, he was an alderman for eight years.

Johnson was also a member of the Sycamore Chamber of Commerce, received the Danielson Outstanding Citizen award and was a member of the Sycamore Moose Club.

He was an owner in the Gullberg and Johnson Inc., Furniture Store and began Johnson Auctioneering Service where he served as an auctioneer.
