DeKALB – NIU women’s golf closed out its fall season on a bad note, finishing 11th place out of 12 teams at the Pat Bradley Invitational at Florida International University.
After finishing top five in its first tournament of the 2023-2024 season, the Huskies finished in the bottom five of their final three tournaments of the fall season.
As a team, the Huskies shot 40 over par, 904, through three rounds. NIU shot a 295 in Round 1, a 304 in Round 2 and a 305 in Round 3.
Senior Jasmine Ly led the way for NIU, finishing in ninth place. Ly shot one under par, 215, through three rounds. She posted a 71 in both Round 1 and Round 3.
Senior Emily Romancew finished in a three-way tie for 15th place, shooting three over par, 219, through three rounds. Her best round was a 69 in Round 1.
“Jaz (Ly) and Emily had great rounds over the tournament and fought through difficult weather conditions,” said NIU women’s golf coach Kim Kester via NIU Athletics. “We have had athletes competing since February, so looking to regroup and refocus for the spring season.”
The University of Miami dominated this tournament, shooting 34 under par, 830, through three rounds. The Hurricanes had the top three golfers in the tournament.
Fourth-year junior Sara Byrne and sophomore Olivia Grønborg tied for first, shooting 13 under par, 203, through three rounds. Freshman Barbora Bujakova finished in third place, shooting 10 under par, 206, through three rounds.
The Huskies next tournament of the 2023-2024 season will be the Bowling Green State University Women’s Intercollegiate, an all day tournament spanning from Feb. 13 through Feb. 14 at the Wigwam Golf Club in Litchfield Park, Arizona.
