Students asked to vote for SA representatives

The time is now for NIU students to elect representatives who will debate student issues and allocate $850,000 in student funds.

Today and tomorrow, the Student Association is urging students to make an effort and vote for 33 candidates.

SA voting booths are located in DuSable, the PowWow and Library from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., said SA Elections Commissioner Christina Hulting. Students will need to present a student ID to be eligible.

To provide fair representation in the senate, the campus is divided into five districts allowing up to eight senators to be elected from each district.

In 1990 only 4.2 percent (1,065 students) of the entire student body voted during the SA senate elections.

“It is important for students to take an active roll in the SA,” said Rebecca Bahr, SA public relations adviser. “The more students get involved, the more power they will have when it comes to policy changes.”
