Calling all teachers looking for jobs.

NIU is sponsoring a job fair April 8 for all teachers or student teachers looking for jobs. The fair will be held at the Duke Ellington Ballroom of the Holmes Student Center as well as the Regency Room and the Capital Room. The time scheduled for the fair is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m..

The fair is made up of 100 school districts, 60 percent of which are from Illinois. Some school districts are coming from as far away as Hawaii, Florida and California.

“The purpose of the fair is to match up people looking for jobs with people that need teachers,” said Dawn Scheffner, placement counselor.

The fair is part of a caravan and NIU is one of the spots picked because it is known for its excellent education program, Scheffner said.

The teacher candidates pick up a handout at the door of all the schools participating in the fair. They then can take their resume to the schools most interesting to them and get an interview.

NIU is expecting 700 teacher candidates and it is important for them to get there early to get a head start on interviews, Scheffner said.
