Scuffle breaks at STS

No one was hurt Monday during an incident that resulted in charges of battery and assault against an NIU student, University Police said.

Stevie Lamarr Lemon, 20, 511 Normal Road, Apt. 304, was charged with one count each of simple battery, simple assault and criminal damage to state-supported property, after he allegedly fought with friends in the lobby of Stevenson Towers South, UP Det. Curt Underwood said.

Lemon allegedly got in the middle of an argument between two women and threatened one of them, Underwood said. “The offender told her to ‘stay out of my business,'” he said.

Lemon grabbed the woman and tried to push her to the ground, police said. The woman had a telephone receiver in her hand, which was ripped out of its base during the argument, he said.

Although reports of criminal damage often increase during the spring, Underwood said most are trivial. However, fighting can mean criminal charges, he said.
