Student continues quest to disband the SA

Sophomore Drew Krenke is encountering unexpected obstacles as he continues his quest to clean-up the Student Association.

Krenke needs 1,200 signatures in order to hold a referendum to disband the SA. He has 400.

Another problem, Krenke said, comes when the petition butts its head against SA bylaws. “The SA rules are really hindering the petition process,” said Krenke.

The petition is designed to give the SA the entire summer to clean-up its act and get motivated, he said. But SA bylaws state the petition must be submitted this year to count the signatures currently on the petition.

Once the petition is received, the senate has a month to act on it—another problem, Krenke said.

“If the petition is turned in and voted on before the end of this term, then the purpose of the petition is destroyed,” Krenke said.

Despite this, Krenke said he plans to go ahead and try to get the SA’s judicial board to hold the petition until next fall.

“It’s up to the senate. It’s a choice they have,” said SA judicial member Dan Gora.

Still, Krenke said he is optimistic about the petition.

“I think I have a good chance of getting the petition held over (until next semester),” he said. “Either way I’m going to turn it in and see what happens.”
