Hearings continue for NIU football players

NIU football players continued their court appearances Friday.

A DeKalb judge continued Friday the preliminary hearing on charges of criminal trespass filed against defensive end Tim Green, 23, and quarterback Stacey A. Robinson, 21, both of 1024 W. Hillcrest Drive, until March 26.

The continuation came on the heels of a DeKalb judge ruling Thursday that there was enough evidence to try three other NIU football players for battering two NIU students.

A third NIU football player involved in the trespassing incident, Larry Wynn Jr., 19, 190 Douglas Hall, pleaded guilty Feb. 5 to criminal trespass to property, said DeKalb County State’s Attorney Mike Coghlan.

Although the state recommended jail time for Wynn, the judge fined him $150, ordered him to serve 40 hours of community service and put him on two years supervision, Coghlan said.

DeKalb Police arrested Wynn, Robinson and Green Dec. 20 for “an incident in which someone reported some people went into their apartment,” said DeKalb Police Lt. Dick Moudy. A $600 stereo reported stolen in the incident was recovered, Moudy said.

When Green was charged in the trespassing incident, he was out on bond for battery after he allegedly punched another NIU student at Amnesia, 1000 W. Lincoln Hwy., during an argument Dec. 2. Green will appear on the battery charge Tuesday.

Mark Zilinskas, 22, had his ankle broken in the Dec. 2 incident, police said.
