NIU women’s tennis (8-2) duo junior Jenna Horne and senior Reagan Welch were named the Mid-American Conference Doubles Team of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
The duo continued their 8-0 unbeaten streak in NIU’s victories over Valparaiso University and Lewis University on Saturday.
Against Valparaiso, Horne and Welch cruised to a 6-1 win against sophomores Jalene Fernandes and Lillian Kelly.
Later the same day, the duo took a 7-6 (8-6) set against sophomore Sreevally Medshetti and junior Bendetta Luccone. Horne and Welch fought off five match points in the win, clinching the doubles point for the Huskies.
This is the fourth MAC honor for women’s tennis this semester, following freshman Lucia Yecora, freshman Irmak Budak and junior Nataly Ninova, all of whom earned MAC Singles Player of the Week honors.
NIU women’s tennis takes on the University of South Dakota at 10 a.m. Saturday in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, before facing the University of Sioux Falls at 2 p.m. the same day.
