Winter weekend at Lorado scheduled

By Andrea Cuchetto

NIU’s Lorado Taft Field Campus offers a winter weekend event—Feb. 15 at 4 p.m. through Feb. 17 at 2 p.m.

Graduate assistants in outdoor teacher education at Taft will conduct activities ranging from birding, inspirational poetry, annimal signs, and tracking hikes—to learning to work with wool. Other activities include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, arts and crafts, astronomy, night hikes, a candelight dinner and live entertainment.

Co-chairperson Daina Hardisty said the weekend offers the perspective on Winter that: “It’s not just dreary.”

An annual event since 1980, “Make Tracks Into Winter” costs $72 for overnight residents and $60 for commuters and includes meals. Graduate and undergraduate credit is available at additional cost—graduate, $72.50 per credit hour; undergraduate, $71.50 per credit hour.
