Offices, classes to be closed Monday

To honor Martin Luther King, Jr., no classes will be held Monday, Jan. 21.

In addition, NIU’s Office Of Public Information announced the closings of other NIU offices.

The Huskie Buses will operate on the weekend schedule Monday. Student Association Mass Transit Adviser Todd Allen explained that the lack of classes is expected to decrease the demand on the system.

“It just doesn’t make financial sense to run the buses as if it were a normal day, so in order to save the students a little money we will run a weekend schedule for Monday. Of course Tuesday we will be back to our regular schedule.”

“I expect most students will take the opportunity to sleep in on Monday,” Allen stated. “At least that is what I intend to do.”

All NIU computer labs as well as Founder’s Memorial Library will close. The Shapiro Law Library will remain open from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., however.

Other NIU facilities closed for the King holiday will include the University Health Service and the Office of Campus Recreation.

The Holmes Student Center building will be open from 7 a.m. until midnight Monday.

The HSC Bookstore will be open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., and the Huskies Den will remain open from noon to 11:30 p.m. in order to allow use for vacationing students.

Additional university services will remain in operation over the Monday holiday. These include the University Police and the telephone services of the university switchboard.
