Oregon coaching position opens after dismal year

Oregon State University is in a town similar to NIU’s, but unlike the Huskies, OSU has struggled with the success of its football program lately.

Dave Kragthorpe left his helm as OSU’s head football coach last week by mutual consent. Kragthorpe had three years left on his contract when he left. During his six-year stint at OSU, Kragthorpe had a coaching record of 17-48-2. The PAC-10 team finished 1-10 this season.

OSU is located in Corvallis, population 45,000, which is just over 50 miles east of the pacific coast and 85 miles south of Portland.

OSU was founded Oct. 27, 1868. The enrollment at OSU is 16,024. Its current president John Byrne has been with OSU for five years.

OSU is known as a Land Grant/Sea Grant Agriculture State College. Colleges within the university include Liberal Arts, Science, Agriculture Science, Business, Education, English, Forestry, Health, Human Personality, Economics, Oceanography, Pharmacy and Veterinary Medicine.
