IFC acceps new proposals

NIU’s fraternities solved some problems Tuesday when their governing board accepted two proposals.

The interfraternity council discussed and passed proposals regarding Spring 1991 Rush procedures and Fall 1991 Homecoming procedures.

The Rush proposal, which included three parts, will not change Rush greatly because several amendments were made before it passed.

“These were just suggestions from the Rush committee,” said Rush chair Dan Garofalo.

IFC agreed that fraternities can give out bids to prospective members on any night of Rush. However, “rushees” cannot sign them until the beginning of the second night.

Also, IFC struck down a proposal to decrease the number of regions that rushees visit before choosing a house from five to three. The regions from last fall will remain in place.

Finally, IFC agreed the The Northern Star ads will not be placed by individual fraternities but the council as a whole. An information booklet about all fraternities will be produced and distributed to the residence halls.

The Homecoming proposal allowing for random pairing of sororities and fraternities for events also passed. Since there are more fraternities than sororities, larger sororities will provide two teams for the paired evens.

“This is the best way to go,” said sorority liason Christine Miller. “The Campus Activities Board requires events to be co-ed,” Miller said.

Elections of new IFC executives will be held at their Nov. 27 meeting.
