Missed deadline delays paycheck

Students who registered to verify on-campus employment eligibility as early as the first day of classes will be surprised to discover their first paychecks won’t arrive until October.

The deadline to register for on-campus employment was Aug. 24, three days before class began on Aug. 27.

Anyone who submitted their verifications to the office later than Aug. 24 will not be eligible to receive a paycheck for the pay period ending September 10, said Melody Amundsen, job location and development coordinator.

“There is just no way for our office to process and computerize the paperwork and have time cards issued in time to pay the students by September 15th,” Amundsen said.

Amundsen said each department was notified before the Aug. 24 deadline about the delay.

However, pushing the deadline ahead into the regular school year wouldn’t solve the problem. Amundsen said a later deadline would increase the number of problems encountered by trying to process 3,000 students.

The office still would not make mid-September payments, she said. “The deadlines are the same every semester,” she said adding, “We try to get things done as fast as we can.”
