VP of Golden Key earns recognition

The NIU chapter of the Golden Key National Honor Society had a special treat Tuesday when one of its outstanding members gained national recognition.

Beth Miller, vice president of NIU’s local chapter, was named the National Student Representative of Golden Key. She was chosen from three student finalists at the Annual National Convention held earlier this month in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Fabian DeRosario, faculty adviser to Golden Key, praised Miller for her enthusiastic contributions to the organization.

“Beth brings a high level of professionalism and commitment to Golden Key, and we are very proud of her for representing NIU on the national level,” DeRosario said.

He expressed eagerness in watching the progress of Miller’s contributions in the years to come. “I look for her leadership to make a mark for NIU on the national level,” he said.

Initiated into Golden Key in 1989, Miller established a chapter newsletter and made significant contributions in NIU’s Best of America Anti-Drug Campaign.

With Miller’s assistance, NIU’s Golden Key chapter received the society’s highest honor, The Key Chapter Award, as well as the Best Newsletter Award.

But there was more behind Miller’s award. “As a result of Beth’s prominence, NIU has been selected for the Central Regional Conference of Golden Key,” DeRosario said.

Golden Key is a national, non-profit honors organization founded to provide recognition to juniors and seniors who excel academically in all disciplines. In October, the organization has a school-wide awareness week where members actively comb grade reports to find eligible pledges.
