IFC elects three officers to fill positions

The Interfraternity Council elected two officers to fill executive board positions vacated because officers did not meet the grade requirements and created a new position to ensure IFC government separation.

IFC President Rob Martin said the Executive Vice President Kevin Taalman and Activities Vice President Jim Tubridy left the council because they did not meet the requirement of a 2.25 grade point average.

The IFC proposed a lower GPA of 2.0 at the Jan. 21 meeting. The council voted at its Feb. 4 meeting not to lower the requirement.

Martin said the council did not pass the proposal to lower the GPA requirement because “everyone looks up to the officers. They’re leaders and should set examples.”

The council elected Gary Raczek, of Sigma Chi fraternity, as vice president of activities and Tom Ryan, of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, to fill a new sergeant-at-arms position at the Feb. 4 meeting.

Delta Sigma Phi fraternity member Dale Spencer was elected as executive vice president at the council’s Sunday meeting. Spencer said he plans to “help out IFC, give new ideas and be impartial” when dealing with issues.

Martin said the sergeant-at-arms position was created to ensure the IFC Judicial Board is kept separate from the other branches.

“We didn’t want j-board out looking for cases. Sergeant-at-arms is a liaison between the three bodies (executive board, IFC, and judicial board),” he said.

yan said his duty as sergeant-at-arms “is to organize party patrol to a point where we can monitor parties more efficiently.”
