Newly-elected PanHellenic officers add diversity

NIU’s PanHellenic Council elected seven new officers Tuesday night for its executive board.

“I’m really excited about it (the new officers). There’s a lot of diversity. All these people have been really active in PanHel,” said Leslie Wegworth, current PHC president.

The council elected Karen Wilkinson, from Alpha Phi sorority, president; Darcy Dial, from Alpha Delta Pi sorority, executive vice president; Marj Herceg, from Sigma Kappa sorority, vice president of membership; Channing Blair, from Alpha Sigma Alpha, vice president of finance; Monica Morgan, from Delta Zeta sorority, vice president of membership development; Heidi Picard, from Alpha Phi, vice president of public relations; and Laura Fischer, from Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority, vice president of activities.

“I feel very honored because I’ll be representing a lot of different groups,” Wilkinson said, adding, “I’d like us to become better aware of Black Greek Council and other minority groups and work with them better than we have in the past. I’d like us to become closer together on this campus as Greeks.”

Greek Adviser Mary Ronan said the top three executive officers must be from different sororities. Members from six different sororities are holding positions on the executive board.

The officers will go through transition on Tuesday and officially take office at the next PHC meeting.
