Show choir to perform

NIU’s show choir, the “Northern Lights,” will present its Fall Showcase on Saturday at 8 p.m. in the Music Building Concert Hall.

The program features 21 performers along with 10 combo players. The choir is under the direction of Ramona Quinn, School of Music faculty member.

“This is not just another group of cute girls and suave guys who sing and dance, there is a lot of work involved,” Quinn said.

The choir will perform a variety of vocal jazz, pop, “Doo-Wop,” and funk styles of music. “I chose this type of music because it is challenging for the students and the quality of music is better,” Quinn said.

Among the selections to be performed are “Manhatten Transfer-style” arrangements of “Occapella” and “Birdland.” A men’s rendition of several 50’s and 60’s style tunes and a women’s version of the swing favorite “In the mood,” will aslo be performed.

Quinn said the program is “complete with choreography and a driving instrumental combo and is sure to be lively, colorful and musically entertaining.”

Admission to the SA funded program is free.
