Artists open shows in Center

Two NIU students gathered months of artistic efforts and presented their individual works last Sunday in the Holmes Student Center gallery.

Julie Vari, in working toward a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, has hung her eight-piece display titled “Absolute Reference” in the gallery’s lounge area. These paintings, consisting of two separate series, offer large and menacing visual experiences.

Vari, commenting on her work said, “These paintings are very personal and relay alot of my own beliefs.”

A senior art major, Vari said to apply for a show here, she submitted slides of her work last February and was notified by mail earlier this semester of her acceptance.

In the glass-enclosed portion of the gallery, NIU graduate student G.E. Colpitts is presenting her 14-piece ceramics display titled “Works on Paper.”

Colpitts was attending the national drawing competition in Iowa and was unable to attend the opening.

Both of these exhibits will run through Saturday, November 18th.
