Michael Gordon will present “Black Greeks at Historically White Campuses,” the first lecture of the Greek Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Duke Ellington Ballroom of the Holmes Student Center.

Gordon has been the dean of students at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., since 1981. His responsibilities include fraternity and sorority affairs and student rights and responsibilities.

The Dean of Students Division, under Gordon’s supervision, established the Commission on Racial Understanding as well as additional programs.

Mike Williams, NIU graduate assistant for Greek Affairs, said this lecture is the first of a series sponsored by the InterFraternity and PanHellenic councils. He said there will be three lectures during the school year.

“He’s (Gordon) a very powerful speaker,” Williams said.

PHC Education Chairman Michelle Martino said “We thought that he (Gordon) could bring a perspective to our campus that’s not yet on our campus.”

Martino said the speech is intended to “make Greeks aware of black Greeks and why they do what they do. I think the whole campus can benefit from this,” she said.
