Mr. Illinois winner to speak

Bodybuilder Anthony Kirsch, class winner of the Mr. Illinois Contest and owner of Barbells Gym, will speak on weightlifting, nutrition and competition Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the lobby of the University Plaza, 900 Crane Drive.

Kirsch will be a guest poser at the Mr. NIU Contest Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center’s Sandburg Auditorium. The contest is sponsored by the University Plaza and will feature 12 contestants. Admission is free.

Financial planner to lecture

Michael Kabarec, CPA and Certified Financial Planner, will give a lecture titled “Money: You Can’t Live With It and You Can’t Live Without It” at a professional development dinner Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Marriott Hotel, 1401 W. 22nd St., Oakbrook.

The program is sponsored by the NIU Alumni Association. There is a $20 fee. For reservations, call 753-1452.

Viola recital to be presented

Michael Hining will present a free viola recital featuring selections by Bach and Brahms Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Music Building. Hining is a candidate for the Performer’s Certificate Degree. Parents are asked not to bring small children to the concert.

Students to sponsor car wash

The Student Health Advisory Committee is sponsoring a car wash Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Proceeds will go toward sending members to the American Collegiate Health Association convention in Washington, D.C. Coupons for the event are available at the SHAL office in the University Health Service building.

Clean-up to combat hunger

The NIU Campaign Against Hunger is organizing a campus clean-up Saturday to raise money to fight hunger and homelessness. Half of the proceeds will go to national and international hunger projects, while the remaining half will go to local projects such as Feed Our Older DeKalb and PADS Homeless Shelter.

Musical benefit to be held

A benefit to raise funds for Dan Gallagher, a 27-year-old cancer victim, will be held from 6 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Saturday in the gymnasium of Lee Grade School. Top 40 and country music will be provided by Turning Point. A $10 donation is requested.
