Albright acquires two recruits for next year

A coach’s work is never done. This could be the new motto of NIU women’s basketball coach Jane Albright who recently signed Young High School’s Christy Connor and Chicago Lindbloom’s Soyini Chism to a National Letter of Intent.

With the 1988-89 basketball season not even under way, Albright and her staff have been busy looking to the future by recruiting Connor, a 6-foot-1 prep senior from Chicago, and Chism, a 6-foot-2 power forward. Conner and Chism made their decisions official during the early signing period, which runs Nov. 9 thru Nov. 16.

The Huskie coaching squad noticed Conner as the type of player who can step onto the court and play any position.

“The main thing about Cindy is her versatility,” Albright said. “She can post up inside or run the break. There’s really no position she can’t play.

“My assistant coaches Debbie Patterson and Kim Duppins really did a good job in recruiting Cindy.”

As a junior, Conner averaged 18 points per game and averaged six rebounds per game while aiding her team to a 23-7 record last season. Unfortunatley for Conner and her teammates, the season ended with a loss to Marshall High School in the City Championship.

Conner’s high school resume is filled with credentials that widen the eyes of college coaches. A Chicago Tribune All-Area and Chicago Sun-Times All-State Special Mention have Conner sitting pretty.
