Alumnus receives award

Vincent Nall, president of Ideal Industries in Sycamore, was awarded NIU’s first Executive Award for Excellence in Corporate Achievement.

The award is sponsored by the Marketing Honors Society and is given in recognition of corporate executives, with a minimum rank of vice president, whose work has aided NIU.

Jay Wagle, honors society faculty adviser, said the society was founded in 1986 by the NIU marketing department to show appreciation for the contributions that prominent executives can offer the school.

“Among many other things, Mr. Nall is responsible for the advancement of computer use in the college of business,” he said.

Nall, an NIU alumnus, was praised for his work as NIU Foundation director. The foundation raises money to support scholarships.

Nall also is a liaison between NIU and the Ideal Co., which sponsors internships and matching funds for scholarships. Ideal Industries also sponsors an excellence in teaching award for the college of business.

Nall said, “I’m very pleased to be recognized by the Marketing Honors society. Marketing was my major at NIU, and I’m proud to be supportive of the university, the business school and the marketing society.”

Although this is the first time the marketing award has been given, Wagle said it will be awarded each semester in the future.

Nall said, “I believe the (marketing) society is an excellent organization which fosters excellence in marketing. I’m also very pleased to participate in bridging the proverbial gap between business and education.”
