Police question victims location before accident

DeKalb Police are still investigating Saturday’s accident in which NIU student Karri Botz, 17, was killed after being struck by a motorcycle and a car on Annie Glidden Road, just north of Crane Drive.

DeKalb Police Lt. Charles Beierlotzer said the police are attempting to determine the whereabouts of Botz prior to the accident, but he would not comment further on the case.

Botz’s floormates said she had been at an apartment party in the Greek Row area before the accident happened.

Police reports stated that Botz had been drinking prior to the accident. However, a spokesperson for DeKalb County Coroner Dennis Miller said it will be three to five weeks before autopsy and blood alcohol test results on Botz will be available from the coroner’s office.

The driver of the motorcycle that collided with Botz, Christopher Hennessy, 20, of Park Ridge, was arrested for not having correct driver’s license classification to operate a motorcycle. He is scheduled to appear in court at the DeKalb County Courthouse Oct. 21.

Beierlotzer said that when the investigation is complete, the police will confer with the state’s attorney’s office.
