Greek Affairs Activities Adviser Jeff Cufaude won first place in the National Association for Campus Activities’ Third Annual Prize Papers Competition for 1987.

Cufaude’s entry in the professional staff category, “Self-insight, Self-development and the Sounds of Silence,” earned him first prize and $250. The paper dealt with the role of silence in communications, he said.

Cufaude has entered and received prizes in two other categories in the competition since 1985.

e attended an NACA convention as an undergraduate, and through workshops and motivation, he found a means to convey his ideas to others.

e took first place in the undergraduate category in 1985 with his entry “Positive Peer Pressure: Motivating the Silent Majority.” A second-place ranking came in the 1986 graduate category with Cufaude’s entry “A Passion for Excellence…Lessons for Student Leaders.”

e said people have noise and talking going on all around them and “when we are silent, it’s such a change of pace it’s taken as negative” communication.

Educational Services Director Nancy Walborn said NACA is an educational association involving 1,060 colleges and universities nationwide.
