Catapult comes to DeKalb

By Northern Star staff

“America’s Got Talent” finalists Catapult are coming to DeKalb 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St.

The team of dancers create shapes with their bodies, which create intricate silhouettes against a backlit screen. Set to music, these shadows tell stories and create recognizable images.

Catapult made it to the Top 12 Finals in Season 8 of “America’s Got Talent,” ending their run on the show with a performance that told the story of a boy struggling with bullying who finds solace in his family and a new dog.

Catapult was founded in 2008 by Adam Battelstein, who spent 19 years with renowned modern dance company, Pilobolus, making appearances on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and the 79th Academy Awards, according to the Catapult website.

Battelstein brought what he learned to Catapult, reinventing what dance could look like. Catapult now performs concerts around the country, as well as personalized events for events and businesses.

“I bring my experience, my sense of imagination and humor to your project,” Battelstein said in his bio on the Catapult website. “And if that isn’t enough, I bring my peers along with all of their experience and skills. Catapult‘s dancers are some of the best in the world. Literally stars of the stage and screen.”
