‘Stranger Things’ reignites binging

The Duffer brothers are back again with a new season of “Stranger Things,” a series which has kept viewers in horror and suspense as they binge and beg for more.

Leading off with the previous season’s events, season two of “Stranger Things” provides more character development, action and thrill. This season holds its focus on the absorbing cast of characters while also adding new personalities in the mix.

Set a year later than the previous season, Will Byers, played by Noah Schnapp, cannot seem to get a break from being constantly stuck upside down in the mess and chaos of his life. The town once again becomes consumed by supernatural forces, leaving the foundation of the plot to remain intact.

The characters also remain consistent as viewers transition into the new season with familiar faces such as Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown, returning to the screen. Eleven goes through an extreme amount of development as she is constantly wondering who to trust and trying to get back to her friends in the new season. She learns to face the world on her own while also figuring out who is truly on her side, and Brown does an excellent job portraying both the internal and external struggles faced by her character.

While the lovable original cast made their return, new characters took precedence this season. The prime example of this mix up is Max, played phenomenally by Sadie Sink. Though Max was not favored as a new kid on the block by the main cast of child misfits, she continues to follow them around unaware of the previous year’s events. Sink plays a rough-around-the-edges girl who helps out the team in their new endeavors, and the conflict and tension among her character and the original band of children adds a new dimension to the show.

Another intriguing addition to the team is Bob Newby played by Sean Astin. Astin plays a good natured and down-to-earth man who does not understand the supernatural and does so in a flawless manner. His character provides depth and new twists as the screenwriting of the show plays out revealing new secrets.

“Stranger Things” season two once again delivers in the nostalgia of the ’80s, a time when monster movies and cheesy slang filled the lives of children. With intricate costumes and attention to the small set details, viewers feel like they are brought back in time with each episode they binge.

Providing a gripping story and compelling cast of characters, “Stranger Things” season two is sure to leave viewers begging for more as they begin the countdown for the next season.
