Six men’s soccer players identified on academic All-MAC team

Seniors Luke Read and Jerome Roche, juniors Adrian Coardos and Max Voss and sophomores Christian Molina and Ethan Pitre earned the conference academic honors.

Read, a finance major, obtained a 3.46 GPA, appeared in all 15 matches, making 14 starts during his senior campaign. This is his third time earning the Academic All-MAC selection, with previous selection in both 2015 and 2016. Read wrapped up his collegiate soccer career with five goals in 52 matches.

Roche is also a finance major with a 3.754 GPA; he played in eight matches during the 2017 season, including six starts. He previously earned the Academic All-MAC selection in 2016. In his three season run, he appeared in 39 matches.

Coardos, a business administration major, acquired a 3.2 GPA and played in 11 matches this season, starting in two. He’s earning the Academic All-MAC honors for the second consecutive season. Coardos scored the overtime, game-winning goal in the 97th minute of NIU’s 3-2 win over DePaul in late August.

Voss is also a business administration major with a 3.655 GPA and played in 14 matches during the 2017 season, starting in six. He’s earning the Academic All-MAC honors for the second consecutive season. He has obtained 12 shots during his junior campaign and one assist.

Molina, a corporate communications major, obtained a 3.679 GPA and is one of three Huskies to have started all 15 matches in 2017. Molina tied for team lead the team in shots with 23, scored one goal and tallied two assists.

Pitre, a statistics major, earned a 3.406 GPA, also starting all 15 matches for the Huskies. Pitre played over 1,300 minutes and tallied eight shots, including three on goal.

To qualify for Academic All-MAC honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the season’s contests. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
