Bears take baby steps towards victory

By Ryan Ostry

After just seven weeks of football played, the Chicago Bears have now officially matched last year’s win total with their third victory defeating the Carolina Panthers 17-3.

The score of the game wasn’t indicative of what actually happened… shocker right? I mean we are still talking about the inept Chicago Bears.

Rookie sensation Eddie Jackson had a breakout game with a 75-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown, and then returned a 76-yard tipped pass interception for a touchdown as well.

That wasn’t the only story however on the defensive side, as the Bears had their best game as a unit while getting after Cam Newton for a total of five sacks on the afternoon.

Newton was completely flustered the entire game while having 13 incompletions and throwing two interceptions with the other going to linebacker Danny Trevathan.

On the offensive side, there was nothing new or relatively creative. Once again the Bears didn’t let rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky get to his potty training stage by himself, as offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains only let the quarterback throw seven times… SEVEN!

Second year running back and pro bowler Jordan Howard once again stole the spotlight and overshadowed Trubisky with 21 carries. Baby steps, Trubisky, baby steps.

Boo’s kept coming in and out of the game as Bears fans are getting frustrated with how the organization is handling their “star” quarterback.

“I thought I played really poor, we just have to get better in the pass game and that falls on me,” said Trubisky according to a USA Today story written by Zach Zaidman.

Trubisky completed four out of his seven attempts, one going for 70 yards to rookie Tarik Cohen. For a 63 percent success rate, that’s pretty harsh criticism.

If the Bears want a shot at winning next week against the New Orleans Saints, they’ll have to utilize the rookie quarterback. They’ll  be going up against future hall of fame quarterback Drew Brees whose reputation precedes him. He is guaranteed to throw the ball between 30-40 times a game, AT LEAST.

The Chicago Bears will be away at 12 p.m. October 29 in New Orleans.
