Top 5 Worst Bath & Body Works Candles

By Eve Grunauer

September marks the start of stores flooding their aisles with fabulous fall scents. Bath & Body Works is no stranger when it comes to having wacky scents, but some of this season’s candles fall short of fabulous.

Number 5 – “Cypress” ($24.50)

Made with lemongrass and thyme, “Cypress” has an unappetizing earthy smell. It’s as if a pile of dirt was sprayed with lemon Pledge, rolled into a ball and smushed into a candle mold.

Number 4 – “Incense” ($24.50)

Whiffs of black pepper & patchouli make “Incense” a hard scent to stomach. You might find yourself trying to hold back a sneeze as the smell of freshly ground pepper envelopes your senses. Achoo!

Number 3 – “Hello Sugar” ($22.50)

“Hello Sugar” smells exactly like its name, with one whiff and an immediate sugary sensation. It doesn’t give off a sweet smell, but more like opening a new bag of sugar and sticking your head inside. All together very unappetizing.

Number 2 – “Sweater Weather” ($24.50)

The bottom of the candle says it contains juniper berry, sage, eucalyptus and fresh woods. While having so many natural ingredients, it’s surprising to find the candle is actually bland in scent.

And the winner is… “Caramel Pumpkin Swirl” ($22.50)

The candle puts senses into overload as the caramel swirl scent hits instantaneously. This creation is sugar, spice and everything far from nice. The scent lingers long after the lid is closed and is so sweet it could form cavities on the spot.

While everyone enjoys a sweet treat, these candles give more headaches than happiness. But while their aroma is overpowering, their cute aesthetic and density make them some of the cutest and most expensive paperweights.
