DeKALB | Kela Moss, 26, of DeKalb, was charged with four counts of first degree murder for strangling Brendon Brown, 25, of DeKalb to death.

DeKalb Police were informed of the incident at 12:22 a.m. Monday when Moss walked into the DeKalb Police Department, 700 W. Lincoln Highway, and handed over her keys to the officer after explaining there was an incident Sunday and a body was in her apartment, according to a DeKalb Police Department press release.

With Moss’s permission, the police entered the apartment, 419 S. First St., and found Brown lying on the floor of the apartment dead. The police then filed for and received a search warrant from a DeKalb County Judge to further investigate, according to the press release.

“This was the culmination of a long period of domestic abuse,” said Moss’s attorney Robert Nolan, according to a Tuesday Daily Chronicle article. “We will prove that she was defending herself when this happened.”

Brown was charged with robbery and domestic battery, allegedly, on Oct. 24, according to the Daily Chronicle. Brown and Moss were in a relationship together and Brown also lived in the apartment.

Moss’ bond was set at $5 million, 10 percent to apply. She was transported to DeKalb County Jail, according to the press release.

DeKalb Police are continuing to investigate the homicide.
