Q&A: Goose Doctor’s lead guitarist and vocalist

By Jesse Baalman

DeKALB | Local band Goose Doctor is the first band to play at the Friday reopening of The House, 263 E. Lincoln Highway, but it won’t be the bands first time on the establishment’s stage.

“To be a part of the reopening [and] rebirth of The House is a real joy,” said Tom Stach, lead guitarist and vocalist for the band Goose Doctor. “We have been playing there from the very beginning.”

The Northern Star got in a few questions with Tom Stach before he takes the stage with his band on Friday, since the establishment’s several month-long closing, to understand Goose Doctor’s overall excitement and song selections they have planned for their set.

Q: Who are the members of your band?

A: Tim Stach [on] drums [and] vocals, Tom Stach [on] guitar [and] vocals and Dan Holloway [on] bass [and] vocals.

Q: Has the band ever played at The House Cafe before?

A: We have played The House Cafe since the opening of it in 2000. We have had many projects under different band names throughout the years and have morphed into this power trio. The three of us grew up together in DeKalb, all playing in different bands throughout the years. This version of Goose Doctor is the most free and exciting music I have ever been apart of.

Q: What is the band’s particular style?

A: We try not to limit ourselves with genres — we play from the heart, [and perform] all types of music [and] sounds to reach the heart and soul of the listener. If one person leaves the club with a good feeling, then we feel it’s been a success. [Our music is] influenced from artists like Prince to Jerry Garcia and everything between.

Q: What songs are in the setlist?

A: We play all original songs, paying homage to our local roots in many numbers such as “Old Kishwaukee.”

Q: Explain the general excitement that the band has for The House.

A: To be a part of the reopening [and] rebirth of The House is a real joy. We have always enjoyed creating art through our music at our local home base; We have been playing there from the very beginning. DeKalb is our home, and we love the [downtown] family that radiates through every square inch of that room.
