3 things to do this weekend

By Jay Ibarra

Fill the weekend agenda with fun things to do around NIU and Dekalb County. Here are 3 things you can do this weekend:

Relaxation Night

Need to relax after a long week of classes by doing some coloring? The Holmes Student Center is hosting an event that will have coloring, play dough and an activity to make your own stress ball.

This event begins at 6 to 8 p.m. tonight in the Holmes Student Center Glass Gallery.

Sandwich Fair

Take a group to the 129th annual Sandwich Fair this weekend where fair goers can expect a schedule full of events from horse shows to tractor pulls. The Sandwich Fair would be a fun place to go with friends — the fair offers live entertainment, carnival rides and various food vendors like Otto’s Popcorn and Rotary Club’s Bratwurst.

The fair will run until Sunday at the Sandwich Fairgrounds, 1401 Suydam Road. Daily general admission is $5 at the gate, children younger than 5 can get in for free.

DeKalb Kite Fest

Join locals for the 11th annual Kite Festival to celebrate outdoor kite flying. Kite Fest is the perfect thing to close out the weekend — This event will include food, flying and a kite candy drop for kids.

Chicago Kite will be selling kites available for purchase, festival goers can bring their own to fly or watch the kites be flown. The Cream King and Sweet Dreams Dessert & Catering will be selling food available for purchase throughout the day.

The event is 11 to 4 p.m. Sunday at NIU North 40, on the corner of Lucinda Ave. and Kishwaukee Drive. Kite Fest is free and parking is $3, cash only.
