History of the Week: DeKalb Police officer attacked during booking

Mark Charipar and Patrick Olchawa were arrested for trying to open car doors on N. Annie Glidden Road when an assault occurred during their booking.

A Batavia man was charged with aggravated battery after allegedly attacking a booking officer at the DeKalb Police station, according to a May 6, 2008, Northern Star article. 

Mark Charipar, then 20, allegedly “sucker punched” a booking officer and began to choke and strike him.

A dispatcher saw the attack over a security camera and called other officers to restrain Charipar.

The booking officer and an additional officer on duty, who helped break the attack up, were taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital for their injuries. 

Charipar was initially arrested with Patrick Olchawa for trying to open car doors on the 1300 block of N. Annie Glidden Road, according to a May 6, 2008, Northern Star article.
