The suspect in a Wednesday carjacking and suicide has been identified as Malik Henry, 19, of DeKalb.

Henry shot himself while in the car he had stolen from 919 Ridge Drive, according to a DeKalb Police news release.

An emergency 911 call placed at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday from an office in West Ridge Apartments indicated that Henry took a maintenance employee’s vehicle keys at gunpoint and drove off with the vehicle.

Within minutes, DeKalb Police found the stolen car being driven on the 100 block of N. Annie Glidden Road.

The car turned onto Lincoln Highway and the chase was continued to Rochelle near the interchange of Lincoln Highway and Interstate 39 where a pursuit termination device was used.

Henry’s car left the road and came to a stop in a field where he shot himself inside the car. Henry was pronounced dead at the scene.

The scene was secured by the DeKalb Police with the assistance of the Rochelle Police.

The subsequent investigation by the DeKalb Police has linked Henry to a robbery that occurred at about 8 p.m. Tuesday at 919 Ridge Drive.
