Style Guide: Spring Fashions

By Jay Ibarra

Favorite similar trends are making small changes in patterns, color and length this year.

Off the shoulder

This trend channels one of the best decades of all times: the ‘80s but with a western festival inspired twist. This is going to be an experimental trend that plays with patterns such as crochet, cut-outs and prints. I wouldn’t be surprised if it stays for festival season later in the year.

Lace up shoes

This trend emerged early last fall, through ballet flats, now they’re back and bigger than ever.

This spring we’re going to see lace up ballet flats, sandals and heels. This trend is shocking everyone because it’s so flattering. You have to get on it.

A-line skirt

The a-line skirt is a garment fitted at the hips and lengthened at the hem, resembling a capital “A.” Everyone will be wearing a-line skirts this spring. You’re going to see this skirt in denim, corduroy, suede, lace and floral because this is a skirt that has a lot of texture.

Shorter shorts

Long shorts are about to make their way out because short shorts haven’t been seen on men for awhile. This trend is long overdue. You should expect to see men baring a few inches less on their cargo and cotton shorts this spring.

Slip-on shoes

We are going to see slip-on canvas shoes, loafers, boat shoes and moccasins to pair with spring clothes. The shoe color of the moment is light gray — it’s a spring color that will pair perfectly with any accessory.
