Style Guide: Upcoming Spring Trends

By Samantha Keck

The best thing to do while being bundled up inside, waiting for the warmer weather, is to look for trends that may be popular this spring. I was casually gazing the designer collections of Vogue and Elle when I noticed a couple trends you could try at NIU.

Athleisure

If you’re wondering what Athleisure is, it is a combination word of athletic and leisure. It’s becoming a bigger trend to wear athletic outfits for daily activity rather than only physical activity. Wearing your Nike’s while going grocery shopping is encouraged. Models Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner add bomber jackets and crop tops to their gym outfits.

Fringe

The fringe trend never left. It’s a perfect way to spice up an outfit. It can be a added to a purse or it can be a bold statement on a shirt. Fringe is a perfect way to switch it up and it’s the kind of detail that can go with almost any outfit. It’s a perfect way to spice up your appearance on any spring day.

Suede

When suede comes to mind, I immediately think of the ‘70s. It’s an interesting fabric that goes very well with other upcoming trends. Unlike fringe, I would say suede is more risky. The material is perfectly versatile for the upcoming spring weather.

Denim

The use of denim has been a classic, although I think Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake ruined it for a while. Denim is being showcased more on runways in unique forms, such as dresses. A denim dress is another great trend that would be a great transition outfit for the spring.

These trends can be worn together or separate. They’re perfect seasonal transition pieces everyone should try out this spring. Don’t be afraid to leave your comfort zone and try something new.
