Men’s basketball looks to improve on hot start

Men’s basketball (3-0, 0-0 MAC) will look to extend its perfect start to the season to four games when it battles Eureka College (1-3) this week.

NIU

The Huskies come in averaging 73 points-per-game and are outscoring their opponents by a margin of eight points. They have also outrebounded their opponents by 10 through the first three games. Sophomore center Marin Maric led the team in rebounds in each of the three games with eight.

NIU has found different ways to win each of its first three contests. The Huskies bench contributed 57 points Friday against Cal State Northridge, all of which came from freshmen.

Basketball faced Wright State on Sunday and was down by eight points at halftime, but came up with crucial stops when it needed to and secured the victory.

Eureka

Eureka picked up its first victory of the season Tuesday against Emmaus Bible College (2-5) after losing its previous three contests against Rockford (1-0), Loyola-Chicago (2-0) and Monmouth College (1-0). It was the team’s first time scoring 100 points since the 2011-12 season.

Opponents outscore Eureka by a margin of 15 points and outrebound the team by close to eleven boards a game. Both of those statistics bode well for NIU considering the team has been efficient on the glass so far.

The game will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Convocation Center.
