Red Wreath Program aims for safe holiday season

By Northern Star Staff

Wreaths will be displayed at three DeKalb Fire stations until Jan. 1 as a part of the DeKalb Fire Department’s Red Wreath Program.

The wreaths have red bulbs when they are put up Thanksgiving Day. When there is an emergency fire incident related to the holiday season, a red light bulb is changed to a white light bulb. The goal of the program is to keep the wreaths red, according to a DeKalb Fire Department news release.

The wreaths were displayed for 33 days last year. During that time, there were no fire incidents directly related to the holiday season, according to the release.
