Police say a reported attack of a man on a walking path, which led to at least three schools going under lockdown today, did not happen.

Cmdr. John Petragallo said the lockdowns were initiated in the afternoon after police received a 911 call from a male victim who reported being attacked by an unknown man while on a walking path off Dresser Road. DeKalb High School, Brooks Elementary School and Jefferson Elementary School were locked down.

But, in a news release later today, police said an investigation showed the attack did not occur.

“We know this incident caused safety concerns for area residents, therefore we felt it important to notify the community as soon as possible that this reported attack was unfounded,” according to the police news release.

DeKalb High School student Dylon Nichols, 16, said the lockdown was announced over the intercom and “didn’t seem like a big deal. .. .”

“We were just sitting in class, and I didn’t know what happened until they announced it over the intercom,” Nichols said. “They said it was down by some building, some people got attacked, and there were supposed to be cops in the area.”

Police Chief Gene Lowery said police are still investigating the incident that led to the lockdown.
