There are at least three shows in their freshman year that deserve a second season.

“Trophy Wife” on ABC, “The 100” on CW and “About A Boy” on NBC are shows that deserve to go on and develop a broader fan base.

“Trophy Wife” stars “The Proposal” alumna Malin Akerman. She plays Kate Harrison, a young woman who marries a man already divorced two times with children from previous marriages. It shows the developing relationships between Kate and her husband’s ex-wives and their children.

Adding comedic relief is Kate’s best friend, Meg, played by Natalie Morales. Meg is a child in an adult’s body. College students can definitely relate to her. We do not want to grow up, but at the same time we want to be treated as adults.

A second season would bring more depth to these characters and their relationships, allowing viewers to see them grow.

“The 100” is a fairly new show, having premiered in March. It tells the story of the remaining survivors of a nuclear war living on a space station. The twist to the show is the space station is slowly running out of oxygen and people are starting to die. To see if Earth can sustain life again, 100 teen prisoners are sent down as an experiment.

This show is a typical CW show as it has teen angst. Each episode ends with a cliffhanger that keeps viewers wanting to know what happens next.

“About A Boy” is based on the 2002 movie starring Hugh Grant. Both of these are based on the book of the same name written by Nick Hornby. The first episode covered the movie in 30 minutes. After that, the writers took the show in its own direction. We see bonding between single and carefree Marcus, played by Benjamin Stockham, and his neighbor’s son, Will, played by David Walton, from episode to episode. Will becomes a bit of a father figure with a mix of friends.

The debacles these two get into leave viewers laughing and smiling because we can relate. We feel for Marcus because all he wants is to fit in with his peers. To see him struggle with wanting to fit in but still be himself is something all viewers can relate to; however, his relationship with Will is heartwarming. Watching the two grill steaks and play video games will warm anyone’s heart.

This show is charming and Walton has found his perfect role in Will.
