2014 movies include Legos, Godzilla and the hotel business

“Godzilla” returns with “Breaking Bad’s” Bryan Cranston playing Joe Brody.

Imagination and adventure seem to be the theme for countless 2014 films. Here are a few important movies I am excited to see in theaters this year.

“The Grand Budapest Hotel”

Director Wes Anderson is well known for his peculiar and eccentric style. Anderson made a name for himself with standout movies like “The Royal Tenenbaums” and “Moonrise Kingdom.”

“The Grand Budapest Hotel” does not seem to stray too far from Anderson’s winning formula. The film follows hotel concierge M. Gustave H. (Ralph Fiennes) and his lobby boy Zero Moustafa (Tony Revolori) as they are framed for murder and try to hide a priceless work of art.

What really makes this film a must-see is its star-studded cast. Beside Fiennes and Revolori, I look forward to watching Edward Norton, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum and Bill Murray. With this talented group of actors, it’s hard to expect a boring part in this movie.

“The Lego Movie”

I couldn’t stop myself from laughing as I watched this movie’s hilarious trailer. I wanted to call it a toy maker’s cash grab, but the more I looked into it, “The Lego Movie” seems like a genuinely fun film.

From the directors of “21 Jump Street,” Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, comes a Lego fan’s dream. This is a feature film that takes place in the expansive Lego universe, where Lego Batman and Lego Abraham Lincoln hang out.

The cast includes Morgan Freeman, Alison Brie and Liam Neeson. I’m hoping to see this be a top family-friendly hit.

“Godzilla”

The “King of the Monsters” is making his first return to the big screen since the 1998 film I tried so hard to forget.

“Godzilla” has been one of the most influential and creative kaiju monsters in films. I could not be more excited this monster may be getting the update he deserves.

Not much is known about the production of this film, but the trailers have already started building up hype. The shots of Bryan Cranston running down hallways and a destroyed San Francisco skyline make quite a sight to see. My heart sank in fear as I saw the gigantic Godzilla and heard his blood-curdling screech.

As one of Cranston’s first big steps post-“Breaking Bad,” this iconic monster film has a lot of anticipation for its May release.
